I will finally get to show my big, bold, joyous painting, Birdwatching (52″x52″, mixed media) during SF Open Studios, Nov. 11 & 12, 11am-6pm at The Farm Art Collective, 1458 San Bruno Ave., San Francisco, CA. It depicts some colorful and lyrical shape making inspired by jungle trance music.
I am very pleased to open 2017 with the inclusion of “Global Melting” in a group show of 53 Northern California artists at Gallery Route One in Pt. Reyes Station — the 32nd Annual Juried Show “Beginnings.”, created by the esteemed Chester Arnold.
Point Reyes Station owes its existence (and obviously part of its name) to the railroad that ran through for 59 years ending in 1933. Originally, it was called Olema Station. It’s worth a visit to this beautiful town in west Marin. If it’s a gorgeous weekend, you might want to breeze by and the surroundings. The downtown eateries, of which there are several, seem almost a mandatory stop for caravans of bicyclists, motorcyclists and all manner of visitors coming through. You can also picnic and wander around the Pt. Reyes National Seashore.
The artists at GRO believe that art can be a powerful force for change, and that artists have much to contribute to the dialogue about critical problems we face as a society. Their mission is to originate and present contemporary art exhibitions, educational programs and community outreach in order to inspire people to experience the world in new ways. For more information on the Gallery Route One website.
The exhibition dates are January 27-February 19, 2017 with a reception on Saturday, January 28, 3-5 pm.

My painting Galleon on Red Sea won an honorable mention at the recent Summer National Juried Exhibition at the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art in Novato, California. Juror Brian Gross of Brian Gross Fine Art said it was different and reminded him of H. C. Westermann’s work. I appreciate the acknowledgement by such an esteemed art aficionado, to this peice, which represnts a new direction in my work, towards figuration.
Announcing TAG, a curated Pop-Up Exhibition of Contemporary Abstract Painting Artist and Curator Joyce Conlon selected Bay Area artists who are pushing the boundaries within their non-representational work.
Several artists invited or tagged another artist for inclusion, hence the name of the show. Selections were made based on an admiration and an affinity with the other artist’s work. Galleries are disappearing, so artists are taking matters into their own hands. They are coming together in new, shared venues to display their work. What has drawn these artists together? What is it that draws one artist to another artist’s work…a similarity of style and influence, an emotional affinity, a shared sense of place, or just serendipity? This is the question that’s is being considered with this art show.,,about how artists choose artists.
Participating artists include Sydney Cohen, Joyce Conlon, Ellie Fritz, Kimberly Rowe, Bill Russell and the collaborative team of Liz Kalloch and Barb Skoog.
The exhibition will take place on Saturday, February 27 from 3 pm to 8 pm, with a reception from 5pm to 8pm at Mark Drive Studios, 11 Mark Drive, San Rafael, CA. Additional hours are Sunday, February 28 from 12pm to 4pm. The show is free and open to the public.
